About TIC's Plus 1 Solo Show Festival

Since 2009, TIC’s Plus 1 Solo Show Festival has featured over 50 original one person stories in midtown NYC.

The format is simple: during the dark nights of TIC’s main stage show, Plus 1 features 3-4 new works (10-30 minutes long each) on a program together.

Past Plus 1 Solo shows have gone on to be featured in festivals across the U.S. and beyond: the United Solo Fest in NYC, to Edinburgh, Scotland’s Fringe Festival.

Have a solo show you wrote and want to perform? Please review our submission guidelines below.

Dates

The Fall 2019 Plus 1 Solo Show Festival will run for 2 performances, Sunday, November 3 and Monday, November 4 at The Bridge Theatre @ Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 12th Floor, NYC.

Submission

Please send the following materials to [email protected] by August 15, 2019 @ 11:59 pm.
  • A cover "letter" email introduction, including:
    • Your name
    • Name of piece
    • Confirm, if selected, that you are fully available for our dress rehearsal from 2-6 pm on Sunday, November 3, and to arrive and stay in the theater for the duration of the two festival nights, Sunday, November 3 and Monday, November 4 (performers are called at 7:15 pm for 8-10 pm performance run)
    • If  you are a member of Actors Equity Association, please include your full AEA name and AEA # (if selected, TIC will request approval to produce your piece under the NY Showcase Code)
    • Approximate run time (seeking pieces which are 10-30 minutes in length)
    • Production history, if any (Plus 1 has a slight preference for premiering new works)
    • Log line: 1-2 sentence overview of the story of the piece, e.g. "A teenager is accidentally sent back thirty years in a time-traveling DeLorean, only to meet his teenage parents and alter their futures. Can he make things right in the past and get himself back to the future?"
    • A quick 3-10 word teaser about the piece, e.g. "Where we're going, we don't need roads."
    • A list of all light and sound cues. (Plus 1 provides a simple lighting and sound package to its performers, but cannot accommodate the use of a projector, fire, or strobe, due to the terms of the lease of the theater.)
  • Attach your final script, in 12-point font and double-spaced, as a PDF, following this naming format, "Last name, First name_SHOW TITLE"
  • Your professional head shot
  • Your 50-word professional bio, listing performance credits, education
  • Links to your online presence: website, Facebook, Twitter, Instragram

If selected, you will be informed, via email, by August 31, 2019.  Should you accept your slot in the festival, you are responsible to memorize, rehearse, and perform the piece, provide any sound cues 1 week in advance of performance, and promote your performance, to ensure you have a supportive audience in the theater. There are no fees associated with being in Plus 1. Each performer will receive 1 comp ticket to 1 performance of their choosing.

TIC provides its festival participants with a professional stage manager and house manager for the performances, volunteer accident insurance, playbills, and website promotion of the show to its donors and fans.
TIC retains 100% of the box office receipts for the festival, to offset its production costs.

Questions? Email [email protected] before DUE DATE at 11:59 pm to ensure time to answer before the deadline.

Thank you!
